Kyle Scott is the Chief Executive Officer of Affinity Media NE CIC and a well-established figure in community media across the North East. He has been involved in local radio from a young age and has extensive experience in running community-focused organisations and radio services.
Kyle began his broadcasting career at NE1fm, Newcastle and Gateshead’s first full-time FM community radio station. During his time there, he presented a range of programmes including The Dedication Show, Saturday Mid Morning, and Drivetime, and regularly took part in outside broadcasts. He left NE1fm in early 2019 to develop a new local broadcasting project.
In August 2019, Kyle founded Radio Shields NE CIC with just two volunteers and limited funding. The station launched its full-time online community radio service in September 2019 and grew rapidly, developing a busy and diverse programming schedule. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, the station proved its value to listeners and local authorities, reinforcing the importance of locally delivered radio services.
In early 2021, Kyle supported Red Army Group (formerly MUX ONE) in its successful Ofcom application to introduce small-scale DAB radio to Tyneside. In December 2021, Radio Shields NE began broadcasting on the UK’s first small-scale DAB network, marking a significant milestone in the station’s development.
In March 2024, Kyle and the board of directors rebranded the organisation as Affinity Media NE CIC, reflecting its ambition to expand local broadcasting services. Under Kyle’s leadership, the organisation launched Affinity Radio North East in June 2025, now broadcasting across two DAB transmitters serving South Shields, Tynemouth, Newcastle, and Gateshead.
Kyle continues to lead the organisation with a strong focus on community engagement, volunteer development, and ensuring accessible, independent local radio for the North East.
